“Step Up Revolution” hunk Ryan Guzman loves Miami, Guy Ritchie, and his mom!

As president of the “Hollywood Hot Boys Welcoming Committee,” it is my duty to introduce you to Ryan Guzman who is making his big screen debut in Step Up Revolution this weekend! Not only does he have drool-worthy abs and a history as a model but he also has mad love for his mom!

Let’s say it together…..Awwwww!

I recently spoke to Ryan about his experience working on such an exciting film right here in the Magic City, his beautiful co-star Kathryn McCormick (were there sparks?), and what his Hollywood dreams are now that he has a major motion picture under his belt. We also discussed some of his heroes which include co-star Peter Gallagher, British director Guy Ritchie, and The Dark Knight Rises star Tom Hardy. Yep, all members of the “Hollywood Hot Boys!”

Rosy: “What was your experience like shooting in my hometown of Miami?”

Ryan: “I always say that shooting in Miami was like shooting back at home. I come from a big Latin family so the city and its residents made my experience feel very inviting and loving.”

“It was comfortable for me, aside from the heat that wasn’t too comfortable [laughs], but I loved how the director and producers showcased Miami in the best light possible. One of the beginning scenes shows is on Ocean Drive and it shows you right then and there how fun Miami is.”

Rosy: “Step Up Revolution is your debut film but with your mixed-martial arts background, did you find that picking up the dance moves needed for the film was easier?”

Ryan: “I wasn’t a dancer at all but my seven years of training in MMA made my body aware of what it can and can’t do. But dancing was a totally a different thing. It’s one thing to know what your body can do and its another thing to have rhythm.”

“For the film, I got a crash course in dancing in three weeks in preparation for the role. They gave me three weeks to pick it up or I would be given a dance double. I was very adamant that I did not want a dance double because I wanted to keep things as authentic as possible. So I trained my butt off for nine hours every day then continue training for another couple of hours at home until I knew it would look somewhat like the professional dancers. Somehow it all came together and it shows on the screen so I feel blessed.”

Rosy: “Your stunning dance partner in Step Up Revolution is played by Kathryn McCormick, who is also making her big screen debut. Did this create a special bond between you two?”

Ryan: “Katherine McCormick was an amazing and I don’t think I could have asked for a better partner. Not even if Charlize Theron would have asked to cut-in one of our dances would I have accepted! We were both very hungry and we both wanted to learn as much as we could.

The director was also new so we all worked hard to make this movie the best.”

So even though Ryan and Katherine spent a lot of time working side-by-side shooting some pretty hot dance scenes, he assures me that the duo are only friends.

Ryan: “No no, we are not dating but we are best friends.”

Another co-star the Latino hunk enjoyed working with was Peter Gallagher! After having the pleasure to chat him up during USA Upfronts in New York earlier this year I can’t blame him. Peter is literally one of the nicest men in Hollywood and so incredibly talented in not just acting but dancing and singing as well!

Ryan: “I felt bad for Peter who was always in suits during his scenes but at the same time I didn’t feel bad because I was doing the dance scenes in 105 degree weather!”

“Peter is an actor that I look up to and strive to be like in the future. He has been in the business for so many years yet he still comes to the set, introduces himself to everyone and helps them feel at home. It’s really cool to see someone in the business that doesn’t come into a new project with an ego. He has so much knowledge and I was able to learn so much from him.”

And even though Peter could probably out-dance some of the younger talent, it seems that we won’t be seeing him shake his bon bon in Step Up Revolution.

Ryan: “We tried to get him involved in a dance scene but since he was shooting Covert Affairs simultaneously with Step Up Revolution so we only had him for a certain amount of time. Don’t let him fool you, he can dance! The man knows how to get down!”

Since Ryan is so new on the scene, I thought I would get to know our hunk a bit better. One of my favorite things about him is how openly he talks about his love for his family, especially his mother whom he calls, “my little angel.”

SWOON!

Also learn about what his aspirations were before he caught the acting bug!

Ryan: “My dad is great, he was born and raised in Mexico and my mom is America, blond hair and blue eyes. I have a huge Latin family and they are my biggest fans.”

“I grew up in Sacramento, that is the place that I call my hometown. I thought for sure I would become a professional baseball player one day, I had scouts from various colleges and even two pro teams come watch me play before I blew my arm out. That is when I turned to MMA and modeling and that ventured out into LA and here I am.”

“I love my life, both the ups and the downs.”

So where will he go from here? Did Ryan love working on a film so much that he hopes to make a career out of it?

Ryan: “I want to continue acting, I feel like I’ve found my home. I’d love to try out some action and drama roles and grow as an actor. One day I would love to do a movie with Guy Richie. Snatch is one of my favorite movies, as is Rock N Rolla and Sherlock Holmes! i admire his English swag, it’s grittier but its so cool!

I would also love to work with Tom Hardy, who is in one of my favorite movies Warrior.

During his (very limited) time off from shooting, Ryan ventured out around Miami to check-out some of the hottest places enjoyed by celebrities and locals alike. As far as food is concerned, he has dubbed Prime 112 (112 Ocean Drive, Miami Beach, FL 33139) “heaven” and highly recommends their 4 1/2 pound stuffed lobster.

For a bit of dancing, Ryan and dance mob members from the film hit up Dolce (1501 Collins Ave # 203 Miami Beach, FL), The Clevelander (1020 Ocean Drive Miami Beach, FL 33139) and of course, celebrity hot spot LIV inside the Fontainebleau Hotel (4441 Collins Avenue Miami Beach, FL 33140).

Ryan: “Every time we went out dancing with the mob members in tow, we would have crowds surrounding in minutes trying to see the show they put on. It was a great time!”

Don’t forget to check out this fabulous cast of young talent in Step Up Revolution, in theaters now!
