With so many celebrities in the news for doing plenty of bad things, it’s refreshing when they make headlines for making a difference. Led by famed producer/director J.J. Abrams, a long list of celebrities and entertainment industry executives teamed up with veterans from every branch of the military and numerous volunteers on Friday, November 9th, 2012 at Universal Studios Hollywood to give back to the youth of the community.
Celebrities who gathered to fill backpacks sponsored by JCP with food to deliver to children in the Los Angeles Unified School District included longtime J.J. collaborator and friend Greg Grunberg, fellow director/actor Jon Favreau, Covert Affairs star Chris Gorham, Partners star Brandon Routh, and New Girl co-stars Lamorne Morris and Hannah Simone.
After only about an hour and a half, the volunteers were more than halfway towards their goal and by noon, they were ready to put smiles on the faces of countless children. I was proud to have been one of the volunteers who worked hard to help everyone involved meet the deadline.
You don’t need to be a celebrity to get involved in a community project such as this. Check out The Mission Continues and Got Your 6, the two organizations who helped J.J. et al to make this project a reality, and find out how you can help.
