First Look: Dexter Season 8

dexter s8

It is with bittersweet emotions that we share the poster for the eighth and final season of Dexter. The image is pretty telling, showing our boy Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall) under saran wrap with a resigned look on his face. Are the folks at Showtime telling us we should be prepared to say goodbye not only to the show but also the lead character?

So much has happened throughout the series that sadly, we really can’t see another way of ending it than with the demise of our favorite serial killer. No matter how it all goes down I am confident that the creators and writers will do him justice.

What do you all what to see happen? Tune in to the series premiere of Dexter, June 30th only on Showtime.

Bloody Good Time at NYFW: Sally Hansen for Prabal Gurung

Are you currently obsessed with nail lacquers? If so, you must check-out this not-so-cutesy bit of fabulous nail art straight off the runway at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York City!

Now don’t get me wrong, I’m totally into the girly glitter and polka dots, but sometimes a girl just wants to be bad-girl sexy. If you can relate then this story is for you!

Sally Hansen Nail Ambassador TracyLee Percival was backstage at the Prabal Gurung runway show at Hudson River Park’s Pier 57 on Saturday, September 8th, 2012 where she applied the “dripping blood” look on models before they hit the runway. She used Prabal Gurung for Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure in “Angel Bite” (available in stores March 2013) over bare nails that were filed in an oval shape.

Sally Hansen’s Complete Salon Manicure line is an all-in-one formula that combines all the 5 steps of a professional salon manicure—a base coat, a strengthener, a growth treatment, rich color and a top coat—in a single multi-tasking polish.

For those of you that want to attempt this look at home, might I suggest you pick-up Sally Hansen’s Complete Salon Manicure in “Red Zin” since we have to wait so long for “Angel Bite” to hit stores. Then, as StacyLee suggests, using a fine-tip striper brush, dip into the polish and hold above the nail and let the color bead splash onto the nail. Use the brush further to connect the “blood lines” and voila!

So very Dexter meets True Blood right?!

We were on the red carpet getting you the latest scoop, so be warned, if you are looking to avoid spoilers at all costs, just enjoy the attached photos then check out one of our other top stories! But if you are interested in finding out some tidbits of what the future might hold for the Charming guys and gals, then we welcome you to continue reading!Season five will welcome back guest star Danny Trejo in the role of Romero “Romeo” Parada, a high-ranking member of the Galindo Cartel as well as a CIA asset. Jax (Charlie Hunnam) is going to try to use his knowledge of Romeo’s double allegiance to his benefit, but whether or not Romeo is going to “play ball” is yet to be seen. Trejo told me that Romeo’s “the toughest CIA agent you’ve ever seen, ” but didn’t elaborate at all about his characters dealings this season. Oh Kurt Sutter, I don’t know what you say to the cast but you are preventing us from getting too much!

Rockin’ a cap from his latest production Machete Kills, Trejo was happy to give us some insight on what we can expect from the highly anticipated sequel.

“Jessica [Alba] and I kill like twelve people in the first two minutes,” Trejo said.

And what was that about Machete in outer space?

Fellow Latino bad ass Jimmy Smits is coming on board for season five as a love interest for Gemma (Katey Sagal), who has finally separated from husband Clay Morrow (Ron Perlman). After Jimmy’s brilliant turn on Dexter, I’m excited to see what the veteran actor brings to the table.

“His name is Nero,” Jimmy explained about his character. “And if you go back into historical things, Nero is the guy who fiddled while everything burned. So I don’t know if that’s an indication of anything [of what we can expect from his character this season].

He’s led the life, he’s seen hard times but he has an exit strategy, which is one of the reasons he and Jax’s character kind of bond in a way, at least right now.”

Nero comes through for Jax and a few other members quite early in the season and if I’m right, you can expect he will be cashing in that favor in a big way. I can’t wait to sit back and watch the fireworks!

Smits couldn’t stop boasting about Sutter’s amazing talent at telling a story and I couldn’t agree more. (Especially after screening the first two episodes of S5 in preparation for the red carpet!)

After watching the season four finale last year, I had a hard time understanding the reasons why Clay’s life was spared but after seeing where the character is today, I understand why Sutter chose to go about it this way. You simply cannot have such a rotten individual, that was built up for four seasons, just die. It’s too easy, he needs to be deconstructed. And I feel like that is what we are going to see happen in season 5.

Clay has ironically traded places with Piney (William Lucking), who he killed in order to keep his secrets hidden, and is now the broken man who walks around with his oxygen tank and who can’t even hold up his bike anymore! I have an inkling that Clay would rather die than switch over to a Harley Davidson Electra Tri Glide, but I have been wrong before.

“After 62 years of getting everything you ever dreamed of and thought you wanted, and then you lose everything except for your life, I hope that you take the opportunity to decide what is important, what is salvageable, what to fight for,” Perlman said about his characters need for redemption.

Charlie Hunnam, no doubt, has the biggest role of the season as he has taken Clay’s place at the head of the table and responsibility over the Sons. When you add the drama of his relationship with his lady love Tara (Maggie Siff), mother Gemma, estranged best friend Opie (Ryan Hurst), and Tig (Kim Coates), who finds himself full of inner struggle after a tragedy, I have no idea how he is going to be able to handle it all.

Lest we forget to mention that with Opie keeping his distance (at least at first), the spot of VP must be filled.

“I think there is a lot of responsibility in the motorcycle club being the vice president,” Charlie said. “You’re not the final word on the politics of the club and you’re not ultimately the face of the club. Some things in the past where Jax could afford to be a little more impulsive and reckless, he has to really question the way he handles problems when they arise.”

“Once Jax moved up to president, we needed a VP so now I have Bobby (Mark Boone Jr). And Tommy Flanagan (Chibs) as the Sergeant of Arms,” he continued.

Now that the secret is out about Bobby taking the coveted right seat next to the president, I had the chance to chat a bit with Boone who offered us some interesting info on his role for the upcoming season.

“The whole shift in the dynamic has brought out a whole other side of a lot of the members of the club,” Mark said. “Clay is kind of on the outskirts of the whole thing. He has a lot going on still, but he is not involved in the club nearly as much.”

When I asked Boone if he sees Jax being more like John Teller or Clay Morrow, he exclaims he “would like him to be more like Jax Teller, to find his own place in the history of the club, and I think he is doing that.”

You won’t be able to ignore the parallels that emerge between Jax and his father as the premiere opens with Jax narrating a letter he is writing to his son. There is also this moment where the club is celebrating a milestone as the world begins to crumble around them, when Jax is unexpectedly presented with a token from his father.

What a great night and what an exceptional way to get pumped up for season five! Don’t forget to tune in to Sons of Anarchy which premieres this Tuesday, September 11th on FX!

Michael C Hall and Emmy Rossum celebrate Showtime’s Fall Schedule at TCA’s

The closer we get to all the fall season bringing about a return to old favorites and the start of many fantastic new shows, the more excited I get! The stars of many Showtime hits celebrated the upcoming season during a special event during he 2012 TCA Summer Tour on Sunday, July 29th, 2012 in Beverly Hills, California.

Amongst the celebrities partying up included Dexter stud Michael C. Hall, Shameless stars Emmy Rossum and Shanola Hampton, Weeds stars Justin Kirk and Hunter Parrish, Homeland beauty Morena Baccarin, House of Lies stars Don Cheadle and Dawn Olivieri, Episodes star Matt LeBlanc and his former Friends co-star (and Web Therapy star) Lisa Kudrow.

Two of the most highly anticipated returns of the fall at my house are Dexter and Homeland! Teasers for both have kept me on the edge of my seat and I am dying to find out what Deb (Jennifer Carpenter) and Carrie Matheson (Claire Danes) have been up to!

Tune in to the season premiere of both on September 30th on Showtime.

“Chuck” alum Yvonne Strahovski joins cast of “Dexter,” Showtime releases first image

It seems like too much to ask for in one day but not only do we get to see the first image of season seven of the Showtime hit Dexter (above), but now we are also learning some casting news! Chuck alum Yvonne Strahovski will appear in a multi-episode story arc in the role of “Hannah McKay, a strong, independent woman with a past that she’s struggled to put behind her. As a turn of events leads Miami Metro Homicide to ask for her help in solving some old cases, Dexter (Michael C Hall) works with her and begins to wonder if there’s more to this woman than she’s professed.”

Production on season seven began last week and will premiere on SHOWTIME on Sunday, September 30th at 9 p.m. ET/PT, just a day shy of my birthday! Geez guys, you shouldn’t have!

So let’s talk about the first photo showing that the series will pick up just where they left us during the big cliffhanger last season. Deb (Jennifer Carpenter) has just seen her brother ritualistically kill Travis, the s6 baddy right before her eyes. There is no way he can get out of this one, or is there?

I highly doubt the team of executive producers and writers would let ol’ Dex off the hook that easy. So its definitely going to be an adventure to see just how Deb will react and how much of his past will unravel before her eyes.

Homegirl bleeds blue but Dexter is her family. I’m gearing up for another exciting season!!

YouTube Original Channel Partner WIGS is getting ready to launch their second original series Blue starring Julia Stiles next week and we have the sneak peek trailer below! The Dexter alum stars as the title character Blue, a single mother trying to provide for her son by leading a double life as an escort. The series also stars David Harbour, Sarah Paulson, Jeanne Tripplehorn, and Tony Plana.

WIGS, an innovative digital channel producing high-end, original, scripted dramatic series and short films about the lives of women.

“All of our shows and shorts combine high-end serialized content with great hooks and cliffhangers. They have edge; they’re a little bit naughty. The shows are fun, comedic at times, moving at others, and always entertaining,” remarked writer and director of Blue Rodrigo Garcia. “We want to hook people on great stories, great characters and create an addictive type of viewing experience where people are eager to see what’s next.”

Sounds like the perfect combination of awesomeness to me!

Showtime renews Nurse Jackie for fifth season!

There as no doubt in my mind that after an incredible fourth season that Nurse Jackie would get renewed! The powers that be at Showtime made this very announcement this morning as well as confirming news that Peabody Award winner and Emmy Award nominee Clyde Phillips would become showrunner.

“Clyde brings a unique combination of skills in both comedy and drama, and he is a master at making entertaining and compelling television,” said David Nevins, President of Entertainment, Showtime Networks Inc. “We are so thrilled with the series’ performance this year, and we know that with the incomparable Edie Falco in front of the camera, the fifth season of NURSE JACKIE will be even better.”

Phillips served as executive producer and showrunner on the first four seasons of Dexter. Prior to that, Phillips created “Get Real,” which starred Anne Hathaway and Jesse Eisenberg, “Suddenly Susan,” and “Parker Lewis Can’t Lose.”

Nurse Jackie (Edie Falco) has been dealing with the repercussions of her long-time drug use after a successful stint in rehab this season. As if dealing with getting sober isn’t tough enough, the staff at All Saints is dealing with a new boss– Dr. Cruz (the fabulous Bobby Cannavale) who is cleaning house!

Lest we forget the custody battle going on between Jackie and Kevin (Dominic Fumusa). Oy…
The series also stars Eve Best, Merritt Wever, Paul Schulze, Anna Deavere Smith and Peter Facinelli.

It’s been an incredible season and I can’t wait to see how they end it.

Congrats to everyone!
