Portlandia is getting ready to Wiig out!

As if Portlandia wasn’t a great show already, this Friday it gets even better with Kristen Wiig guest starring in a three part arc. In this scene, Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein are Gil and Merrill, members of a struggling rock group who become viral sensations with the addition of their newest member, Kevin the Cat (yes, he’s a cat). Wiig portrays their slightly obsessed fan Kathy, err, I mean Gathy, with a G. Whatever you do, listen to Gathy because she knows how to handle a weapon. What did Pink do to Gathy to make her this way?

Wiig’s odd character name reminded me of her guest appearance on one of the best shows ever, Flight of the Conchords! There she played Brahbrah, owner of a missing “pepileptic” dog named Charlie, and love interest to Bret (Bret Mckenzie) and Jemaine (Jemaine Clement).

Turns out Charlie had actually been missing for six years! Sorry for the spoiler.

Make sure to catch Armisen, Brownstein, and Wiig on Portlandia this Friday, February 10 at 10pm on IFC.

Music Review: Despicable Me Soundtrack

Sure, stealing the moon is a despicable act, but that’s exactly what super-villain Gru (Steve Carell) is planning to do in the 3-D CGI motion picture, Despicable Me, opening July 9. The Despicable Me Soundtrack album will be released July 6rh on Star Trak/Interscope Records, and features new music from Pharrell, Robin Thicke, the Bee Gees and more. This album is a great compliment to a film that looks to be a summer smash.

Pharrell takes part in not only the score but also a majority of albums [Read more...]

Talib Kweli teams up with Estelle for hot new video

In the year 2000, a hip hop classic was born and a new dynamic duo introduced to the world. Although Hi-Tek and Talib Kweli had collaborated before, the duo formed Reflection Eternal and released their highly acclaimed debut album, Train of Thought in 2000.

Now, ten years later, the duo is back with the album Revolutions Per Minute, to be released next week, May 18. (But you can pre-order it now!)

You can check out the video for their single “Midnight Hour” featuring Estelle here:

This book says: You outta be an A**hole!!!

You’re an A**hole!!!

Probably not something you want to hear someone tell you but according to Steven B. Green, Dennis LaValle, and Chris Illuminati, authors of “a** hole ol o gy,” it is a compliment.

“Asshole (n.): A person who gets what he wants when he wants without acting like a douche bag.”

So according to their definition, being an asshole is something we should aspire to be. They are the ones who get the promotions, get the girls, and basically get whatever they want. Sure they may piss some people off in the process but people still want to be around them and hang off of every word that comes out of their asshole mouths.

When I first read the title [Read more...]

The alien boy has landed…

Mixtape: Rappers butchering the songs you love…

But finally! A mixtape that doesn’t cause my ears to bleed and throw the cd in the rubbish bin! And in case you don’t know what I’m talkin about, in case you haven’t heard, the alien boy has landed…

This new mixtape, “The Alien Boy Has Landed” showcases dancer turned rapper Ant Boogie. In an industry over flooded with mixtape after mixtape of below average talent, and thousands of rappers claiming to be the next big thing, “The Alien Boy Has Landed,” is in a class of its own.

Not only did I not immediately toss it aside, I actually listened to it all the way through, which is a big step for me. Ant boogie definitely holds his own on these 9 tracks including “I’m good” by The Clipse and “I Get It In” by Omarion. Overall, a solid mixtape by an artist on the rise.
