Miami Marlins celebrate Opening Night, unveil Friday Night Concert line-up

It’s been a long time coming and tonight, South Florida fans will attend the opening night game between the Miami Marlins and the St. Louis Cardinals at the all new Marlins Park! It will be quite a challenge to take on the World Series Champions but we believe the Fins can do it!

All 13 Friday home games will feature a pre-game party on the West Plaza, including live music on the main stage, corporate partner activation areas, interactive games and entertainment. Six of the games will feature star-studded concerts including Daddy Yankee (April 13th), LL Cool J (May 11th), Chino Y Nacho (June 8th), and Flo Rida (July 13th).

Post-game concerts are included with the price of admission to each Marlins Friday Night Live game.

Jeffrey Donovan and James Marsden race to the finish line!

On Sunday, April 1st, Miami Beach welcomed the Nautica South Beach Triathlon for the 5th year in a row. Athletes, corporate teams, paratriathletes, professional triathletes and famous faces including “The Today Show’s” Natalie Morales, “X-Men’s” James Marsden, “The Office’s” Paul Lieberstein and David Denman, “Cougartown’s” Josh Hopkins, “Pirates of the Caribbean’s” Greg Ellis, and “The Finder’s” Geoff Stults and Mercedes Masohn, “Burn Notice’s” Jeffrey Donovan, “ABC Family’s “Make It or Break It” Josie Loren, the star of the Emmy winning, “Wizards of Waverly Place” & the upcoming “Huckleberry Finn” Jake T. Austin, Carolina Panther’s running back DeAngelo Williams and WWE six-time world champion Dave Bautista were just some of the celebrities who participated in this year’s event.

Pop singer and songwriter JoJo, kicked-off the day’s events by performing the national anthem.

Over 3,000 participants came out to challenge the currents of the Atlantic Ocean and take to the streets of South Beach to raise money for pediatric cancer research at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. The International Distance Race, kicked off at 6:50 a.m. with a 1.5K ocean swim, followed by a 40k bike over Miami Beach’s causeways and a 10K run through the Art Deco District. At 7:40 a.m., participants in the Classic Distance Race hit the beach for a half-mile ocean swim, a 19-mile bike ride and finished with four-mile run.

Hundreds of spectators came out to support the triathletes and enjoy an activity filled morning that included a Fun Zone, Nautica Tot Trot and Kids Run. Comedian and actor, Bob Saget, wrapped up the day with an award ceremony as well as a $401,422.00 check presentation to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and John Cena ready to battle it out at Wrestlemania

It felt like it was hotter than 100 degrees at the Eden Roc hotel this afternoon, but nothing could have prepared me for the heat brought on by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson when he made his arrival to the WWE Press Conference kicking-off Wrestlemania events in Miami.

He was welcomed onto the stage with a roar of excitement from media attendees and a few lucky fans who scored seats at the press conference alongside myself and AccidentalSexiness’s wrestling correspondent Scott Fishman. The Rock is quite certain he can take down Cena, and I of course have no doubt, but Cena has been preparing for this match for a long time and won’t go down that easy.

I had the chance to talk to both men and as much as I’d love to say that I am Team Rock all the way, I can’t help but have some love for the man who is dedicating so much of his time to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. While in Miami, Cena is hosting the Make-A-Wish Pizza Party for more than 40 wish kids and their families from the United States, Canada, and Ireland at Jungle Island.

This isn’t his first time making wishes come true, according to his intro at the press conference, this is his 300th. The man definitely deserves some admiration, even from a die-hard Dwayne Johnson fan such as myself.

Another big match up is the women’s tag team match between WWE Women’s Champion Beth Phoenix and Latina beauty Eve against television host Maria Menounos and her partner Kelly Kelly. Beth was making fun of Maria after hearing she injured a few ribs during her current stint on Dancing with the Stars. While that is a bit of an advantage, I have no doubt Beth and Eve have the power to bring down Maria and Kelly Kelly.

I briefly chatted with David Otunga who was busy keeping WWE fans updated on the press conference via Twitter. He told me his fiance Jennifer Hudson would not be able to attend Wrestlemania on Sunday due to work commitments but to make up for it, she flew in 15 of his family members to be there for him!

Cheering extra loud on the big day? Their son David Otunga Jr! I bet the beautiful Ms. Hudson will be cheering from wherever she is for the extremely handsome and gracious Otunga.

His celebrity clientele include Eva Mendes, Kristen Stewart, Scarlett Johansson, Jessica Alba, and Charlize Theron. Now Miami fans have the opportunity to meet designer-to-the-stars Yigal Azrouel when he pays a special visit to Saks Bal Harbour on Wednesday, March 27th from 2pm-4pm.

Shoppers will enjoy light bites, drinks, music and mingling with Yigal himself while checking out his latest collection. Grab your girls and come out for an afternoon of fun and fashion!

Asia de Cuba makes mouths water with new raw bar

My work takes me into South Beach a lot and I have enjoyed many lunches and dinners at Asia de Cuba at the Mondrian Hotel. But now I have found one more reason to return even more; their new raw bar! Plus their menu also got a bit of tweaking done and all the new flavors are sure to entice your taste buds to return every night of the week.

Lest we forget to mention their fun new cocktails including the Berry Mojito (my favorite!), the Canteloupe Pisco, and the Chili Caipirinha!

I had the pleasure to attend a special tasting recently where I discovered my new favorite bites from Asia de Cuba and I’d love to recommend them to you all to sample during your next visit.

Above left are the scrumptious Maki Rolls filled with Paella! I have no idea how they get all the goodness of a Paella into these little rolls but they are to die for! A fan favorite was the crisp octopus which was served to us in a silver take-out box which is perfect for parties.

You know I saved the best for last! The main photo at the top of this article also features a Maki Roll called the Cien Fuegos. It has spicy blue crab, cucumber and kaiware, topped with bruléed hamachi, red jalapeño and scallions.

Muy caliente!

Kia Optima Hybrid? Yes please!

I can honestly say that I am pretty practical when it comes to picking out cars. Sure, driving a fancy car for a special occasion or when taking a long car trip is fun but when I have to choose a vehicle that I will handle on a day-to-day basis I require a few things.

With gas prices getting more and more expensive, fuel efficiency is right at the top of my list when considering a new car. So when Kia reached out to me to try out their 2012 Optima Hybrid, I was pretty excited since its a car I would consider purchasing in real life.

At the time of my week-long test drive, I was living in West Fort Lauderdale, Florida. My journey into Miami for events, which took place often, would take me at least an hour to get to. I could normally do about two trips on one tank of gas in my Mazda Tribute.

For the seven days I had the Kia Optima Hybrid, I did three round trips to Miami and two trips to Deerfield Beach which is at least 40 minutes from my old house on one tank of gas!! Please note, by the time I turned in the vehicle, it still said I was about 123 miles before needing to refuel. (at least two more round trips into Miami!)

Of course the Kia Optima Hybrid had other fun options including a panoramic sunroof, lights (that went set to automatic) knew when they needed to be on, Bluetooth, a slammin’ sound system, and a steering wheel with buttons to control the radio and answer/hang up phone calls.

The only thing I could say wasn’t my favorite were the style of the wheels but it’s such a minimal thing in comparison to the superb package you get.

I’ve never been more sad to have to return a car but I am definitely considering a purchase in the near future.

Jason Wu, Diane Kruger and Nacho Figueras celebrate St. Regis Grand Opening in Bal Harbour

The night was filled with stars for the big grand opening of The St. Regis Bal Harbour Resort & Residences held on Saturday, March 17th, 2012 in Bal Harbour, Florida. Famed designer Jason Wu, actress Diane Kruger and Polo star Nacho Figueras served as hosts for the celebration which included delicious bites, flowing champagne, and fireworks that decorated the skies above us.

Nacho, who is also a model for Ralph Lauren’s entire line of Polo fragrances, has three children with wife Delfina Blaquier (shown above in Missoni). When they travel, it’s very important for them to find somewhere to stay that will look after their entire family.

It’s [the St. Regis Resorts] great for families. I bring my children to the St. Regis, not on this trip, but they’ve been many times to ones around the world. They are fantastic and they really take care of everyone.

Inglourious Basterds star Diane Kruger hit the red carpet in a Jason Wu cape dress embroidered with Swarovski crystals from his fall 2012 collection which everyone was admiring and a pair of Gucci heels. The fashionable blond finished her look with a high bun that allowed her to show off her ensemble without any distractions.

While on the press line she talked about how she channelled Marie Antoinette for her latest film, Farewell, My Queen and whether or not there are any plans for anymore National Treasure sequels.

“It was a lot of reading history obviously but we were shooting it in Versaille so it was easy to get into [the role],” Diane said about becoming the once Queen of France.

And while she didn’t say “no,” don’t expect a National Treasure 3 film any time soon.

“Not that I know of,” she said about the possibility of another sequel co-starring Nicolas Cage.

One of the people I was most excited to meet was Estee Lauder’s newest Global Spokesmodel Arizona Muse! It had only been a few days since the beauty brand announced the big news so I was honored to be one of the first people to talk to her.

As you can imagine, Arizona is overjoyed to join an elite team of global beauties including Joan Smalls, Elizabeth Hurley, Carolyn Murphy, Hilary Rhoda, Constance Jablonski, and Liu Wen. And since Estee Lauder hooked her up with a treasure trove full of their fabulous products, she is keeping quite busy choosing which are her favorites.
