Jeffrey Dean Morgan takes us back in time to the 1950′s in Magic City

What would you get if you combined Mad Men and Boardwalk Empire …..then sprinkled a little bit of Azucar? You’d get the hot new drama from the Starz network entitled, Magic City! Director Mitch Glazer, who just so happens to be a Miami native, was on-hand for a special screening of the pilot episode alongside stars Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Kelly Lynch, Dominik Garcia-Lorido, Yul Vazquez and Steven Straight as part of the Miami International Film Festival on Sunday, March 4th, 2012.Cast members arrived in classic Cadillac’s with lead actor Jeffrey Dean Morgan in the hottest one of them all–a red convertible. Speaking of JDM, it cannot go without saying what a humble and handsome man he is in real life. The press line was flooded with media, fans, and autograph hounds alike, and he somehow made time for every single one.

After the screening, Mitch, Jeffrey, Kelly, Dominik, Yul and Steven sat on stage for a special Q&A session. I learned so much about the amazing set and the story behind Mr. Glazer’s passion project.

Magic City kicks-off on New Years Eve, 1958 where we are introduced to Ike Evans (Morgan), owner of the Miramar Playa Hotel. It’s a tumultuous time in Miami and abroad as racial and religious segregation are at their pinnacle in the US, while 90 miles away in Cuba, Castro’s rebels are closing in on Havana.

The Kennedy’s, the mob, and the CIA all hold court at the Miramar and Ike, the man with the dream, is the star.

There are a lot of shows that pretend they are shot in Miami with only a handful that actually shoot here, and I can wholeheartedly say that as a native Miamian, I am darn proud of this production. I can’t wait for you all to see it.

During the after party, Jeffrey told me we would get to see both the good and bad about his character much like his Mad Men counterpart Don Draper (Jon Hamm). And though a second season has not been greenlit as of today, I hear they begin production on season two in July.

I couldn’t help but notice how much the Miramar resembles the Fontainebleau Hotel. Jeffrey confirmed that set production did a lot of research on the Miami Beach staple when creating their fictional abode.

He even invited me to check out the set sometime this summer! I can already picture myself arriving at security and saying, “Hi, Jeffrey Dean Morgan invited me to visit” and how they would usher me in.

Tune in to the season premiere of Magic City on April 6th, 2012.

Sneak Peek: Jeffrey Dean Morgan stars in ‘Magic City’

Miami is getting the Hollywood treatment by way of Starz Network. Jeffrey Dean Morgan leads the cast of Magic City, a drama that takes place in Miami Beach, circa 1959. He stars as Ike Evans, the visionary leader at the Miramar Hotel who must deal with the Mob, his complicated family and a city in the midst of dramatic change as Fidel Castro takes control of Cuba, just 200 miles offshore.

By day the hotel at the center of ‘Magic City’ is all diving clown acts and cha-cha lessons by the pool, but at night Miami Beach reveals a darker truth. Dopers, dealers, strippers, gangsters and those who arrest them drift together to hear the top nightclub acts perform. Just beneath the surface, racial tensions stir. Ike must deal with all of this, even while global intrigue is brewing right under his roof.

Magic City is directed by Mitch Glazer (Lost in Translation, The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou) and co-stars Dominik García-Lorido (daughter of AccidentalSexiness.com favorite Andy Garcia), Kelly Lynch, Olga Kurylenko, Yul Vazquez, and Elena Satine.

I will be front and center on the red carpet this Sunday to get interviews from all the stars before catching the premiere at the Colony Theater! As a local Miami native I really hope this period drama does as well as Mad Men because I’d love for Mr. Jeffrey Dean Morgan to become a staple on our shores!

Don’t forget to tune into the premiere of Magic City, April 6th only on Starz.

Brooklyn Decker cheers on hubby Andy Roddick in South Florida

Actress and supermodel Brooklyn Decker supported husband Andy Roddick during the ATP Championship held at the Delray Beach Tennis Center on Tuesday, February 28th, 2012 in Delray Beach, Florida. Roddick took on Germany’s Philipp Petzschner during round one of the tournament.

Though he had a shaky start, the 29-year-old ended up the victor by game end.

“I was returning pretty badly early on,” Andy told Fox Sports. “But I have been starting to run better and move better in practice, and it began coming back as the match wore on. I was playing OK at the end.”

Brooklyn did look a little worried during the game but I’m sure she was pretty darn proud of her man!

Christian Louboutin celebrates 20th anniversary with Miami fashionistas

It was a magical day on Monday, February 6th, 2011 when world-renowned shoe designer Christian Louboutin made a special appearance at the Saks Fifth Avenue in Bal Harbour, Florida to celebrate his 20th anniversary. More than 600 local fashionistas lined up to meet Mr. Louboutin who spent nearly 2 1/2 hours signing the famous red bottom heels with a colorful array of pens!

To celebrate the anniversary, the brand launched a limited edition capsule collection with some of the most delicious pairs of shoes I have ever seen! The collection, which included handbags as well, were inspired by his work over the past 20 years and will be available in store in March.

The event had a fun Cuban vibe with lite bites and drinks from Bongo’s and a salsa band that kept everyone entertained while trying on shoes or waiting in line.

We are very pleased to host Mr. Louboutin and help him celebrate his 20th anniversary”. commented Deborah Slack, Vice President and General Manager of Saks Fifth Avenue, Bal Harbour. “We’ve had a long-standing relationship with Christian since the beginning and look forward to the next 20 years”

The celebration continued at The Dutch located inside The W Hotel where 60 honored guests feted Mr. Louboutin in a more intimate setting. I sat with my friend and fellow blogger Annie Vazquez from TheFashionPoet.com to chat about all the breathtaking pieces we’d seen at Saks while enjoying some delicious bites including Little Oyster Sandwiches, Pasta with Pesto & Sweet Peppers & Pine Nuts, Steamed Red Snapper, and Braised Short Ribs.

We wrapped up the evening chatting with the honored guest before stopping for a quick photo. ’twas a magical night indeed!

Miami Food Trucks ‘Breakfast Challenge” winner is…….

To anyone who says they can’t find anything fun to do in Miami that doesn’t include a trip to a South Beach nightclub is dead wrong! The party was hopping last night at Tobacco Road where the famous Miami Food Trucks lined up to welcome foodies from as far away as Port Saint Lucie.

Sef from Burger Beast hosted a fun “Breakfast Challenge” where judges tasted samplings from all the trucks before crowning one lucky winner. As one of the honored judges, I will tell you this is a very difficult process. The more I sit in as a judge at these fabulous food events I’m learning the tricks of the trade…ie. don’t eat more than a bite or two or you will not make it through the contest!

I walked into the event with an open mind, even though I don’t count myself as a “breakfast” fan. My favorite meals are normally lunch or dinner, but I will say I left with many new ideas when creating the “most important meal of the day” from home.

Every single participant should have taken home a special badge for originality. No two dishes were alike though many breakfast staples were incorporated like bacon and eggs.

But since there could only be one winner, the truck with the most votes was Purple People Eatery who made these small waffle sandwiches that featured honey maple ham, a quail egg, scallions and blueberry syrup. YUMMY!

To work off all the calories I took in, I walked around with friends to check out the different trucks and to visit my fellow judge Jack at the Patio Bar located inside Tobacco Road. After 30 years of employment at this South Florida institution, you can bet I heard some pretty amazing stories!

The ones about Colin Farrell during his time shooting Miami Vice will have to remain a secret, but Jack did tell me what the reformed bad boy enjoyed nibbling on during his frequent visits. His go to menu item was, the Cowboy Burger! It has cheddar cheese, grilled onions, and is smothered in bbq sauce.

YUM!

I also heard stories about hunk Lenny Kravitz! I can’t tell you the one that features 5 Russian models, but I can tell you he loves the “Death Burger.” This one features pepper jack cheese and a special blend of sauteed onions and jalapeños they call, “Death Love.”

To find out where you can experience the food trucks yourself, go to their official website here. And for details on Tobacco Road, check out their website here. You never know who will be stopping by!

Manolo Blahnik launches Spring/Summer Collection at Saks Bal Harbour

It’s amazing how one minute a girl can be watching Sex and the City and drooling over the same shoes as her hero and the next minute, interviewing the president of the brand!

Manolo Blahnik launched their 2012 Spring/Summer line at Saks Fifth Avenue– Bal Harbour last week and yours truly had the pleasure to attend the fabulous event. Shoppers gazed upon shoe…after glorious shoe in the presence of George Malkemus, president of Manolo Blahnik while sipping champagne and indulging on some of the tastiest treats that I’ve had in a long time.

Let me just say, you will not meet a nicer, more humble individual than Mr. Malkemus. He shared so many amazing stories about my idol Sarah Jessica Parker as well as stories about some of the most hardcore Manolo fans in the world!

Check out my video below which features some of my journalistic heroes including Shireen Sandoval, host of Deco Drive and Lisa Petrillo from CBS 4.

Don’t forget to stop by Saks Fifth Avenue located at the Bal Harbour Shops to see the full line of Manolo Blahnik shoes today!
