David S. Goyer pens new original series “Da Vinci’s Demons” for Starz Network

If you loved Torchwood: Miracle Day, get ready for an all new series from Starz and BBC Worldwide Productions entitled, Da Vinci’s Demons. Penned by writer of the upcoming Man of Steel and Co-Writer of Batman Begins, The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises, David S. Goyer, the eight-episode series is scheduled to begin production in early 2012.

Here are the exciting details from the press release sent out today!

“Da Vinci’s Demons” is David Goyer’s historical fantasy, following the “untold” story of the world’s greatest genius during his raucous youth in Renaissance Florence. Brash and brilliant, the twenty five-year old da Vinci is an artist, inventor, swordsman, lover, dreamer and idealist. As a free thinker, with intellect and talents that are almost superhuman, he struggles to live within the confines of his own reality and time. He begins to not only see the future, but invent it.

With all the historical dramas hitting the small screen in the last few years, I imagine this one would be fantastic! I’d love to learn more about the multifaceted life of such a major historical figure like da Vinci.

David Goyer commented, “Da Vinci was the original Renaissance man — a near-mythic figure that has world-wide appeal. After working with characters like Batman and Superman, it made a strange kind of sense for me to dive into the facts and legends swirling around his origins. This will be a show about secret histories, genius, madness, and all things profane. And I’m particularly excited that I get to do it on premium cable, where the story can be as dark and challenging and irreverent as it deserves to be. Starz and BBC Worldwide Productions have been nothing but supportive.”

Starz is expected to air the worldwide broadcast premiere in 2013. BBC Worldwide will distribute the series internationally.

Who do you think would be perfect for this role?

Lisa Edelstein was photographed as she arrived at the Wolsely Restaurant in London dressed in head to toe black on Monday, April 12th. The actress best known for her role as Dr. Lisa Cuddy on the hit medical series House visited the BBC Radio One studio earlier that same day.

She is promoting the start of the sixth season in the United Kingdom.

She chatted about getting a cricket lesson while there, all the hidden Sherlock Holmes references on House, her longtime Ashtanga yoga practice, and a lot more!

Russell Brand prank earns BBC big fine!

This prank will never die!

Remember that prank Russell Brand and Jonathan Ross played on former Fawlty Towers actor Andrew Sachs?  Well the BBC has been fined a record amount as penalty for allowing the joke to be aired.  The BBC must pay $219,000.00!!

OFCOM (British Broadcast Regulator) said in a statement that two broadcasts, the one involving the stunt and a follow-up program that referred to the incident, were gratuitously offensive, humiliating and demeaning.

As a result, Brand resigned, Ross was suspended for 3 months and two senior BBC executives resigned.

So why was Russell seen (pictures) leaving BBC Radio 2 yesterday?  Has all of this blown over and he will get his show back??  A girl can dream can’t she?

Not Going Out CANCELLED!

not

For those that already know me and for those of you that don’t, I am obsessed with British television!  Though it had been on for 3 seasons, I only JUST started getting into this quirky little sitcom, Not Going Out.

I was suspicious when a new episode did not get released last Friday and today I found out the horrible news that BBC has canceled it!  Truly sad day for television.

Co-Writer Andrew Collins wrote on his blog: BBC1 have indeed cancelled the award-winning sitcom Not Going Out. This is very sad news, and something of a surprise, as we went out with our highest ever audience figure for the last show, Marriage*, and critics seem to have been much kinder to the third series. Plus, we’d run in some new writers and I personally think it was a strong series. Who understands TV controllers? Not me. It all comes down to numbers in the end, even though the BBC is a publicly funded broadcaster and thus not reliant on advertising revenue and thus not really in the ratings game to the degree where, like American broadcasters, it cancels shows that aren’t performing to a set of made-up targets. But that’s what’s happened: over three series, despite the ratings gradually going up, show by show, and series by series, it still hasn’t rung the requisite bell.

Andrew confirmed there is one more episode, the 8th episode of Season 3 that won’t probably be shown until Christmas.
