Steal My Look Beauty Edition: Paula Patton at the NAACP Awards

Paula Patton had all eyes on her at the 43rd NAACP Image Awards held at The Shrine Auditorium on February 17, 2012 in Los Angeles, California. Looking stunning in a sequined Monique Lhuillier, Paula Patton was a hit not just for her clothing but also her flawless face!

Celebrity make-up artist Fiona Stiles worked her magic on the COVERGIRL Queen Collection Brand Ambassador with some of the hottest products on the market.

We got the breakdown for you from Fiona so you can recreate her look at home!

Inspiration:
Paula was wearing a red, tight, strapless beaded dress that was really beautiful and elegant. We decided to go for a sultry look and play up the eyes, while keeping the skin radiant. Paula had a few tear sheets pulled form some current editorial stories. We used those as a springboard for the look.

Technique:
After moisturizing and prepping the lips with lip balm, I used a Beauty Blender and a synthetic foundation brush to apply the foundation. I added a COVERGIRL Queen Collection Natural Hue Concealer in “Light” where needed and a bit of COVERGIRL + Olay Simply Ageless Sculpting Blush in “Lush Berry” on the apples of the cheeks with a dual fiber brush, then set both of those creamy products with a loose translucent powder (COVERGIRL Professional Loose Powder) and a bit of the COVERGIRL Queen Collection Natural Hue Pressed Powder in “Light Bronze”pressed powder.

Then I used the COVERGIRL Queen Collection Natural Hue Bronzer “Light Bronze” for a touch a little warmth on the cheeks, and a slightly deeper bronze, COVERGIRL Queen Collection Natural Hue Bronzer in “Brown Bronze” for contour, applied sparingly.

First I filled in her brows, brushed them into place and set them with clear mascara so they’d stay put throughout the night. I did a wash of the deep bronze on the lid and blended it up towards the brow and a bit the bronze under the eye. I lined the top eye with COVERGIRL Queen Collection Vivid Impact Eye Liner in Midnight and then blended out the color, softening the line.

Then I took COVERGIRL Queen Collection 1-Kit Eyeshadow in “Black Tie” and went over the liner to deepen the color and to add depth, and blended it up the eye. I concentrated on the outer corners to elongate the eye, and used lots of mascara for a dramatic lash. Three coats of COVERGIRL Queen Collection Lash Fanatic mascara in Black on top and two on the bottom gave the eyes a pretty doe eyed look. I used the champagne color from the COVERGIRL SmokyShadowBlast in Bronze Fire as a highlighter on the inside of the eye.

Finally, with a lip brush I swiped on COVERGIRL Queen Collection Lip Color in “Penelope Pink”, and then added a bit of gloss (COVERGIRL Queen Collection Lip Gloss in “Pearled Peach”) on top of it.
I always give my client blotting papers and her lip color to take with her for stealthy touch ups during the night. The nights can be long, and there are always cameras around!

Steal My Look: Sofia Vergara and Paula Patton rock CoverGirl at Golden Globes

Check out just about any of the “Best Dressed” lists from the Golden Globes and you will find Sofia Vergara and Paula Patton somewhere at the top! Both women dared to be different, walking out in bold colors showing off their amazing personalities that sets them apart from the rest.

As part of Make-up Monday, I have an amazing treat that will help you “Steal their Look” using the same products from CoverGirl that their make-up artists used on them!

Sofia Vergara, who is a spokesperson for the brand, dazzled on the red carpet in a deep blue Vera Wang gown. She also dripped in diamonds, $5 million dollars worth from Harry Winston!

Kayleen McAdams took care of all her make-up for the event and here she breaks it down for you, please try this at home!

Inspiration/Dress: This look is all about the lips. We chose a bright plum lip and kept the eyes soft with bronze shadow and multiple coats of mascara. The dress is a gorgeous Vera Wang in a shade of teal and the hair is very sleek and youthful so we wanted the makeup to stand out and look youthful as well.

Face: I started by applying COVERGIRL TRUconceal Concealer #4 under the eyes and around the nose. I then applied COVERGIRL NatureLuxe Silk Foundation in Nutmeg with a sponge and set that with COVERGIRL Clean Pressed Powder in Soft Honey. I chose a plum toned blush (COVERGIRL Cheekers Blush in Plumberry Glow) and applied it along the cheekbones and apples of the cheeks.

Eyes: I applied COVERGIRL Eye Enhancers 3-kit Shadow in Golden Sunsetall over the lid and into the crease and then applied three coats of NEW COVERGIRL LashBlast 24HR Mascara to the top lashes and one coat on the bottom.

Lips: I applied COVERGIRL LipPerfection Lipcolor in Everlastingfirst and then applied COVERGIRL LipPerfection Lipliner in Beloved.

Application Tip: This keeps the lipstick from bleeding, but makes it easier to apply the line with the moisture of the lipstick.

What’s in the clutch?: When she was ready to hit the red carpet, I sent Sofia on her way with powder, lip pencil and lipstick for reapplication.

Paula Patton was a personal favorite in a bright yellow Monique Lhuillier gown which complemented her skin tone perfectly! Paula, the newest ambassador for COVERGIRL’s Queen Collection, worked with make-up artist Fiona Stiles who hooked her up with some of the lines’ hottest products.

Inspiration/Dress: Paula was wearing a strapless Monique Lhuillier gown, a beautiful sunny yellow. We wanted to keep the look light and pretty, focusing on lashes and cheeks, playing up the happy element of the color.

Face: After prepping the skin, I used a flat synthetic foundation brush to swipe on COVERGIRL Queen Collection Natural Hue Liquid Makeup in Rich Sand, applying it to the bridge of the nose, the cheeks, the forehand and the chin. Then I used the brush to blend the color out towards the jaw and hairline, going over the base with a criss-cross motion to ensure that it was well blended and there were no lines.

I used a little COVERGIRL Queen Collection Natural Hue Concealer in Light to cover any darkness under the eye or redness along the side of the nose, feathering it out so it blended perfectly with the foundation. Before I powdered with COVERGIRL Queen Collection Natural Hue Pressed Powder in Light Bronze, I used a dual fiber brush to apply a bit of COVERIGRL + Olay Simply Ageless Sculpting Blush in Lush Berry onto the apples of the cheeks and then after I powdered, I used a touch of COVERGIRL Cheekers Blush in Classic Pink to brighten the face a bit more.

Application Tip: I like to combine cream and powder blush – just make sure you apply “like to like,” so use the cream blush before you powder and the powder blush after the makeup is set.

Eyebrows: Next I focused on the brows. I gave them a nice full look by adding a little to the shape with COVERGIRL Brow & Eyemakers Pencil in Midnight Brown. The key to making it not look too heavy is to run a clean spooly through the brows after you fill in with pencil. This softens the lines and blends the color in, making it undetectable. Set the brows with a clear gel, brushing the hairs into the desired shape.

Eyes: For the eyes, I started by sweeping COVERGIRL Queen Collection Natural Hue Bronzer in Light Bronzeover the lid, giving the eye a wash of warmth and a little depth, while still looking like her skin. Then I took COVERGIRL Queen Collection Eyeliner in Black Onyxand drew a black line all along the upper lash line, pushing it into the lashes. Taking a small synthetic brush, I smudged the line, softening the edge, making it less severe. I used a little black liner on the bottom as well, pushing it deep into the lashes so that when I applied NEW COVERGIRL LashBlast 24HR Mascara, the illusion was thicker, darker lashes.

Lips: A soft pale, peachy lip achieved using COVERGIRL Queen Collection Lip Gloss in Starlet Sand, made Paula look radiant without distracting too much from the eyes, and the wash of warm pink on the cheeks gave her a fresh, healthy flush.

Focus: The eyes–soft liner and strong lashes–were the focus of the look, so the lips and cheeks were just meant to compliment them.

What’s in the clutch?: I gave Paula her lip gloss, a few cotton buds, and some blotting papers for her to take with her on the red carpet. I wish I could be there to touch up my clients when they get to the red carpet, but once I leave them they are on their own. The challenge is fitting all of those touch up supplies in those teeny tiny clutches!

Both women were stunning and I hope to recreate the look at home soon! Who was your favorite?

Sofia Vergara becomes new spokesperson for CoverGirl

Just when I thought things couldn’t get any better (remember my biggest girl crush Eva Mendes was named Pantene’s new celebrity ambassador?), Modern Family star Sofia Vergara has just earned the honor of being Covergirl’s newest spokesperson!

She just tweeted the following via her Twitter account along with her first behind the scenes photo of the campaign!!

My BIG news!! So happy to be the new @covergirl !!!

Sofia was discovered while walking on a beach in her native Colombia and has been paving the way for Latina’s ever since. My memories of her take me back to the mid to late 90′s when she had a show based out of Miami called “Fuera de Serie” where she traveled to some of the most fabulous places in the world.

Since then, she has integrated into mainstream media and earned countless award nominations including the coveted Emmy and Screen Actor’s Guild Awards for her role as Gloria Pritchett on the ABC hit comedy.

Congrats to Sofia and to Covergirl for adding a new superstar to their roster!

Results: Covergirl LipPerfection 7 Day Challenge

When the folks from Covergirl reached out to me to try out their newest line of lipsticks, I was excited to be able to sample various shades in the collection. Don’t you hate going to the store and seeing a plethora of colors and not knowing how any of the shades will look on your skin tone?

Covergirl’s LipPerfection collection has forty four shades to choose from and I was sent five to try as part of my challenge. Sadly only one of the colors in my package resembled anything I would ever wear. I am not very adventurous when it comes to make-up. I tend to wear more natural colors even when I meet up with my friends for a night on the town.

At least this would be the perfect opportunity to see how the other side lives!

What makes LipPerfection different is that its enriched with silk moisturizing complex and contain a formula that helps sustain moisture levels and helps create soft, smooth, beautiful lips in just 7 days. Could a product really repair my normally chapped lips in such a short about of time?

Here are my results:

Pro’s:
*Covergirl LipPerfection Lipsticks come in forty four shades. I may not have received colors as part of the challenge that I would normally use, but with such a wide variety, I’m sure I could find more than a handful that would rock.

*Coming from someone who normally puts Chapstick on before applying lipstick, I didn’t feel like I needed to take this extra step when using LipPerfection.

*Since I had to walk around wearing these colors on my lips, I decided to take the lightest shade in the bunch and mix it with the others. The result was fantastic!! #255 is like a light beige and worked well as a base for the others. After using this one first, all the others looked much better on me.

Con’s:
*I had to reapply the colors in order to keep the look fresh and to keep the moisture going. This holds true for most lipsticks regardless unless they are marketed as Long Lasting.

Overall, I loved taking the challenge and stepping outside of my comfort zone with make-up. Since I’m always on the go, I also really liked eliminating the extra step and extra product by not having to moisturize first.

You can find the entire collection of LipPerfection shades at your favorite stores including Target, Walmart, CVS, Walgreens and so many others! Try out the 7 day LipPerfection Challenge and let me know if you agree with my outcome!
