Showtime renews Nurse Jackie for fifth season!

There as no doubt in my mind that after an incredible fourth season that Nurse Jackie would get renewed! The powers that be at Showtime made this very announcement this morning as well as confirming news that Peabody Award winner and Emmy Award nominee Clyde Phillips would become showrunner.

“Clyde brings a unique combination of skills in both comedy and drama, and he is a master at making entertaining and compelling television,” said David Nevins, President of Entertainment, Showtime Networks Inc. “We are so thrilled with the series’ performance this year, and we know that with the incomparable Edie Falco in front of the camera, the fifth season of NURSE JACKIE will be even better.”

Phillips served as executive producer and showrunner on the first four seasons of Dexter. Prior to that, Phillips created “Get Real,” which starred Anne Hathaway and Jesse Eisenberg, “Suddenly Susan,” and “Parker Lewis Can’t Lose.”

Nurse Jackie (Edie Falco) has been dealing with the repercussions of her long-time drug use after a successful stint in rehab this season. As if dealing with getting sober isn’t tough enough, the staff at All Saints is dealing with a new boss– Dr. Cruz (the fabulous Bobby Cannavale) who is cleaning house!

Lest we forget the custody battle going on between Jackie and Kevin (Dominic Fumusa). Oy…
The series also stars Eve Best, Merritt Wever, Paul Schulze, Anna Deavere Smith and Peter Facinelli.

It’s been an incredible season and I can’t wait to see how they end it.

Congrats to everyone!

Sneak Peek: Nurse Jackie prepares for her first divorce

Not since the drama of season one have I been so sucked into watching Nurse Jackie! For three seasons, the All Saints rebel gradually succumbed to her drug addictions and is finally paying her dues both in and out of the hospital.

Jackie (Edie Falco) is finally on the road to recovery and she doesn’t have the support of formerly loyal husband Kevin (Dominic Fumusa). He is making sure the mother of his two daughters pays for all her dirty deeds as he begins divorce proceedings and worse–a custody battle.  Jackie doesn’t want to lose custody of Grace (Ruby Gerins) or Fiona (Mackenzie Aladjem) but it will take one hell of a defense and lots of hard word and dedication to help her case.

Her journey to sobriety has been pretty difficult but she has had the surprising support of co-workers including Akalitus (Anna Deavere Smith) who could have really ruined Jackie’s professional life. The question for the remainder of the season is, “Will Jackie be able to maintain her sobriety as her life continues to crumble around her?” Or will she succumb to the pressure and fall down the rabbit hole even further?

We can’t wrap-up our chat about this season of Nurse Jackie without discussing Coop (Peter Facinelli) and his growing obsession with O’Hara’s (Eve Best) fetus. Since we have yet to learn who the father is, and for all intents and purposes we might never find out, could hunky Dr. Cooper become that child’s father figure?

It’s a really fun dynamic to consider and I can’t wait to see how it unfolds.

Also, our little Zoey (Merritt Wever) is engaged! Who knew Lenny (Lenny Jacobson) would be proposing so soon? Definitely not me but I don’t really see that relationship evolving much further either. He might believe she is the one but I can’t see her agreeing.

That’s all we need at All Saints, more friction between the characters at work!

Oh..and um….I want to see her hook-up with Dr. Michael Cruz (Bobby Cannavale)! How hot was that dream smooch?! I love Eddie (Paul Schultze) but Jackie is a totally different person sober and I don’t think they mesh well romantically anymore.

Plus there is that whole friendship between Jackie and Cruz’s son Charlie (Jake Cannavale) still left to explore. We will definitely see all three interacting together later in the season though I’m not sure if that is a positive or a negative thing as of yet.

There was a line Jackie uttered during an intensely serious conversation with best friend O’Hara. She said, “Nothing started going bad until after I got sober!” Keep your head up Jackie because you can only go up from here!

Below is a preview of Sundays episode where Jackie meets with her divorce attorney, Laural Vargas (guest star Aida Turturro) where they discuss how to improve her personal profile.

Tune in for an all new episode of Nurse Jackie, Sunday nights, only on Showtime.

Edie Falco goes glam to the Tony Awards

I’m so used to seeing Edie Falco in the role of Jackie Peyton who rocks a trademark short cut on Nurse Jackie that I almost didn’t recognize her in these pictures! The Emmy Award winning actress was photographed walking the red carpet at the 65th Annual Tony Awards at the Beacon Theatre on Sunday, June 12th, 2011 in New York City, New York.

She looked glamorous in a sweeping black gown with a jeweled, skinny belt to accentuate her waist.

Ms. Falco is in attendance as a nominee in the “Best Featured Actress” category for her work on the Broadway show, The House of Blue Leaves. The competition is pretty stiff, she is up against Ellen Barkin for The Normal Heart, Judith Light for Lombardi, Joanna Lumley for La Bête and Elizabeth Rodriguez for The Motherf**ker with the Hat.

We will be cheering for you!!
