The world loses another Golden Girl: RIP Rue McClanahan

In some extremely sad news, it has been confirmed that Rue McClanahan has passed away. The actress known around the role for her role as the saucy Blanche Devereaux on the sitcom Golden Girls was seventy six years old.

“She passed away at 1 a.m. this morning,” her manager, Barbara Lawrence, tells PEOPLE. “She had a massive stroke.”

Earlier this year the Emmy award winning actress underwent heart surgery and was a breast cancer survivor.

Here is a reason to watch SNL: Betty White will host!

My cheeks are hurting from the huge smile I have on my face right now! The Golden Girls star confirmed the news to People Magazine during the 18th Annual Elton John AIDS Foundation Oscar party held at Pacific Design Center on March 7, 2010 in West Hollywood, California.

When asked by PEOPLE, “Are you doing Saturday Night Live,” she answered, “Yes,” even if she remains perplexed by the groundswell of support.

“I don’t know why or how,” she says, “but it’s been wonderful.”

White didn’t offer any details about the SNL gig, and it remains unclear when she will appear – or what it will entail.

This whole thing started because a devoted fan opened a facebook fan page to petition the folks over at NBC to put our favorite lady on the comedy sketch show.

I can’t wait to see it!

Betty White rox my socks

I can’t find the words to express how much I love Betty White. If you asked me for a list of celebrities that I’d want to meet, she is right above Russell Brand but below Alexander Skarsgard! She is in a hunk sandwich on my list and I have a feeling she might like that.

The 88 year old was photographed as she arrived at her doctors office in Los Angeles, California today. She was so sweet she even posed for a picture with a fan in the parking lot.

Betty was honored during the 16th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards this week. She was presented with the Screen Actors Guild Lifetime Achievement Award.

Now I have to go, I am watching a Golden Girls marathon on the Hallmark Channel!

I am still so heartbroken over the death of Bea Arthur. I’ve been watching the Golden Girls marathon they’ve been giving on the Hallmark Channel. After fans called them and asked for a Memorial Day weekend marathon tribute, the channel obliged.

The network is kicking off the marathon over three days — from 7 to 9 pm/ET each day — beginning April 28. Executives have hand-picked the episodes, which they describe as the “best of Dorothy Zbornak.”

White was visiting a medical center in Beverly Hills today. I’m glad she is looking after herself because I don’t think I could bare losing another one of our girls.

Bea Arthur dead

For those of you who know me know how much of a Golden Girls fan I am.  I watched the series since it first began and enjoy watching it on syndication over and over.  The show is truly a classic.

I came home today to the news that we lost another Golden Girl.  Bea Arthur who played the role of sarcastic Dorothy Zbornak died of Cancer at her Los Angeles home with her family at her side.

“She was a brilliant and witty woman,” said Watt, who was Arthur’s personal assistant for six years. “Bea will always have a special place in my heart.”

Her co-stars Betty White & Rue McClanahan spoke to Entertainment Tonight with their reactions.

“I knew it would hurt, I just didn’t know it would hurt this much.. I’m so happy that she received her Lifetime Achievement Award while she was still with us, so she could appreciate that. She was such a big part of my life.” said White

“[Thirty-seven] years ago she showed me how to be very brave in playing comedy. I’ll miss that courage. And I’ll miss that voice.”McClanahan said.

She is survived by two sons Matthew, 47, and Daniel, 44 from her second marriage to Gene Saks.  Fellow GG star Estelle Getty passed away last July.

R.I.P., you will be missed.
