“Golden Globe” winner Kate Winslet was sitting in my mailbox today. She was looking stunning in a blue Herve Leger dress on the cover of InStyle Magazine for their February 2009 edition.
For years I have loved Kate and I’m so happy that she is finally getting all this recognition! My favorite thing about her is how real she really is. She is often seen walking with her children, 8-year-old Mia and 5-year-old Joe near the home she shares with her Director husband Sam Mendes in West Chelsea, New York.
On a regular day she can’t be bothered by being labeled a “movie star” she just wants to be “mum.”
“Please don’t call me that,” she says. “I don’t feel like a movie star in my life at all, and I don’t particularly think I behave like one. I don’t have my own plane. I don’t have a chef or a trainer. To me, you’re a movie star only during the time when you’re at the Academy Awards or at an important glamorous event. It’s very much a hat that you wear, and as soon as the event’s over, the hat comes off. I’m back to being me and being Mummy, and that’s my priority.”
When snapped by the papz Kate can often be found in casual jeans and t-shirts like the rest of us “normal folks.” I was surprised to learn that she too had grown up a tomboy just as I had!
As a child I was a total tree climber, an overalls wearer,” she says. “I collected sticks and marbles, put feathers in my hair, never had shoes on, was always bumping myself, scraping my knees.”
