Jay-Z Adds Broadway Producer to List of Accolades

tn-500_jayzwm3679286115

He owns his own record label. He started his own clothing line. He raps. He produces. He mentors and develops young, talented artists. And oh by the way, add Broadway producer to the list. Recently, the multi-faceted mogul, Jay-Z, has joined the likes of Will and Jada Pinkett Smith  as a part of some quality musical entertainment in the Broadway Production of  “Fela!,” which is the celebration of the life and work of a truly great human being, the late Nigerian composer, performer, activist Fela Anikulapo Kuti.

Being inspired by his music, as well as the life of Kuti, Jay said this job as producer was one that he could not pass up. In an interview with MTV news, he also had this to say.

“It’s an inspiration, about the power of music. Here’s a guy that’s on the other side of the world who was influenced by James Brown, who takes this thing and makes his own sort of genre of music. I just think it’s fascinating.”

The musical portrays the amazing artistry that was pioneered by the innovator of Afrobeat, including his journey with his music and also his political activism. “Fela!” was written by Jim Lewis and Bill T. Jones, who also had his hand in the choreography. Kuti’s original pieces were performed by members of the Brooklyn Afrobeat orchestra Antibalas.

Robin Thicke and Jay-Z Hit the Studio

Robin Thicke and rap icon, Jay-Z recently teamed up for a fresh sounding collaboration entitled “Meiple.” I have to say that I have never heard Jay on a track quite like this before, however, I do think it puts off a refreshing vibe and sound.

The soulful singer visited Miami’s own 103.5 The Beat radio station this morning to promote his upcoming album Sex Therapy due to hit stores on December 15th.

Check out this clip of the two masters of their craft, feeding off one another in the studio.

Miley Cirus comes out from under her rock

miley-cyrus

Dear Miley,

During the period of time that you have been living under a rock, we have put a man on the moon, women now wear the pants in relationships, and Jay-Z has become the hottest rapper alive. Just a few things I thought you should know. And oh by the way, you should really download some of his music. I hear its pretty inspiring.

Love,

The songwriting team of “Party in the USA”

Miley Cyrus’ recent number one hit, “Party In the USA” contains a line where she refers to being inspired and bobbing her head to a Jay-z song, but little did her songwriters know that she has never even heard one of the multi Grammy award winner’s tracks. Miley commented during a Halloween pre-show interview regarding her single,

“I’ve never heard a Jay-Z song. I don’t listen to pop music.”

She then goes on to explain how her songwriting team composed the song and she just picked it to go with her clothing line and blah, blah, blah, blah. My grandmother is 80 years old and wears two hearing aids… and she has still heard several Jay-Z tracks! Get outa here with all that, Miley!

U2 & Jay Z: Legendary Duo in Berlin

U2 and Jay-Z – Are there any two bigger legends in their respected genres right now?

Earlier today, they teamed up for an honestly, amazing performance of U2’s version of “Sunday Bloody Sunday” at the MTV Europe Awards show in Berlin. Watching the video on youtube, I was literally overcome with goose bumps.

The moment that Bono introduced Jay as the mayor of New York, yeah, I felt a chill. Can you tell Jay-Z is one of my favorite artists? I still must say however, that Jay’s performance of “Lost” with Coldplay, tops this as one of my all time favorite rock/hip-hop duets.

Nonetheless, Bono and Jay-Z are as artistically amazing as any performer and put on as intriguing a show as anyone in the business. I have no doubt that those in attendance will remember the duet for a lifetime. Simply Epic.

Jay Z and Rihanna droppin’ dollars!

Jay Z and his protege Rihanna made a tiny dent on Hova’s credit card while partying it up at Club Vendome in London last night. The duo racked up a $12,000 bar bill including countless bottles of Dom Perignon champagne along with vodka for two tables of friends!

Beyonce does L.A. Confidential

beyoncemag1Herve Ledger bathing suit? Love it!

Mrs. Jay Z is rockin’ the cover of L.A. Confidential Magazine for March 2009.  These are some of the hottest pictures I have seen of her to date.  Does it have something to do with the Herve Ledger bathing suit? Maybe.  But without those curves the suit would be sunk.

In the interview Beyonce talks about the intensity behind playing the role of Etta James.

LAC: Your previous role, Etta James, was a heroin addict and an emotionally troubled woman. Your public image, at least, is quite the opposite— clean-scrubbed and relentlessly cheerful. Did portraying her take you outside of your comfort zone?
BK: Etta James had a darker side. And with the profanity I use in the movie, me [portraying someone] addicted to heroin, having a scene where I’m strung out—I’m sure audiences were extremely shocked. But I’m an artist and I’m playing a character. When I’m doing a movie, Beyoncé is nowhere in the film. One thing playing Etta James taught me is that I can’t be afraid or ashamed of the things that I like, even if it doesn’t make sense to other people, or even if it’s shocking to people. It comes to a point where I know it’s time to take a chance. I don’t have a need to do another record to make more money or become a bigger superstar. Doing the Etta James movie was a scary thing for me. I read the script and said, This is great, but what are people going to think? I even talked to people at the label and they said, “I’m not sure if you want to have a needle in your arm the week after the album comes out.…”

Why she is so secretive about her hubby Jay Z.

LAC: Why have you been so secretive about your relationship with Jay-Z?
BK: This is my first relationship. I’m very private and, of course, I don’t talk about it, but I’m very, very happy, that’s all I’ll say. We were together for a really long time before we got married; we were in no rush. We don’t have a normal relationship because of our careers. But celebrity or not, you go through the exact same things. We’re not perfect, it’s just natural for people to start rumors and try to break things up. You can try to defend it, but it’s difficult when you read things and people are always asking. You have to have a very strong relationship, way stronger than people who aren’t being scrutinized.
