Oh Glee, how I love thee when you have your shit together. After the debacle that aired last week I’ll admit to being skeptical that this special 90 minute episode would deliver. I worried about pointless songs and entire subplots that served no purpose other than to fill empty air. What we got was a tight, well thought out and developed episode that did not feel long at all. And they did it with nary a peep from Sue Sylvester!

It has been almost two months since we’ve had a Glee fix. Truthfully I was thankful for the break. After the initial detox period it was nice to catch up on my Netflix queue even if it meant no HD Puckzilla on my TV for a while. The dry spell ended last night with Glee’s much-hyped return with “The Sue Sylvester Bowl”.

Let me start off by saying that no one has rocked a track-suit inspired wedding gown more than Sue Sylvester did on tonight’s episode of Glee. True, it is quite possible that no one has tried to rock a dress like that…ever, but I predict it will be all the rage in 2011. Don’t be surprised when Vera Wang shows one in her spring collection.

The problem with having A-list guest stars on a show like Glee is that you end up liking them and hoping they’ll abandon their 20 million dollar movie deals to satisfy my episodic television whims. I adore Gwyneth Paltrow’s selfish and commitment phobic Holly Holiday but sadly I doubt we’ll ever see her again.

Glee reminded us tonight why it is such a phenomenon. In the first of the trilogy of episodes that deals with homophobia and bullying Ryan Murphy delivered an emotional and stunning hour of television where Chris Colfer showed us again what a talented and amazing young man he is. For gay boys like me some of it hit a little close to home, but it was supposed to. I remember what the taunting was like, and I came out the other side of it. But, it does get better, and Kurt is beginning to see the light with the help of cutie patootie Blaine (Darren Criss).
