Actor Hugh Grant was sporting a cute smirk as he departed from Los Angeles International Airport earlier today.

The British actor was set to star in the film Indian Summer with Cate Blanchett about the relationship between India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and English heiress Lady Edwina Mountbatten but it has been put on hold while the Indian government reviews the portrayal of the pair.

The duo had a friendship that had long been thought to have become sexual in nature but denied by all parties. Laws in India prohibit films be made about the ruling families without consent of the Indian government.

‘It was a relationship of great friendship between individuals of the opposite sex but at what point that relationship becomes more is between them. The desire to guard a reputation is institutional,’ said Nehru’s biographer M J Akbar to the Daily Telgraph.

‘Why should we go over these things? They were human beings living at a difficult moment in history. Jawaharlal would have been attracted and he was attractive.

‘He was deeply fond of her and after she died he had parliament pass a condolence resolution. But it’s time to forget about it.’
