John Barrowman and Eve Myles hold the secrets to Torchwood

Some people like to celebrate “birthday months” so I figured I had every right to celebrate Torchwood: Miracle Day premiere month for all of July! Following suit is Radio Times, the British version of TV Guide who is dedicating an entire week to the show as is evident by their hot!hot!hot! new cover featuring returning cast members John Barrowman and Eve Myles.

I had the chance to view the premiere episode last week and I want to assure folks that have not watched the first three seasons that you can begin with Miracle Day no problem. But you WILL be so intrigued with the history of the Torchwood Institute and the mystery behind Jack Harness (Barrowman) and Gwen Cooper (Myles) that you might find yourself hunting down episodes and maybe even some Doctor Who to get all caught up.

For folks who have been following the show, the storyline is re-introduced in such a way that you won’t feel like its being repetitive.

The episode opens with Gwen and Rhys Williams (Kai Owen) playing with their daughter at their secluded home in Wales. They have attempted to live a normal life now that Torchwood no longer exists but when the world is taken over by a phenomenon that prevents anyone from dying, it bring people right to their front door looking for answers.

New characters are introduced including convicted pedophile and murderer Oswald Danes (played by veteran actor Bill Pullman), Rex Matheson (played by Mehki Phifer), and Esther Drummond (played by Alexa Havins). All three American actors are affected by this strange phenomenon in very different and interesting ways.

Both old and new characters will come together to try and find the secrets behind Miracle Day and how Torchwood is linked to it all. If no one ever dies but people still age and get hurt, it will only be viable for the human race to survive four months!

Not to mention Captain Jack seems to have turned human when bruises appear on his body that do not heal. It’s a race against time, and I’m excited to see how the ten episodes look to resolve this issue.

Check out this behind-the-scenes video below to prepare yourself for Torchwood: Miracle Day, which premieres on Friday, July 8th, 2011 at 10 pm only on Starz.

FIRST LOOK TRAILER: “Torchwood: Miracle Day”

My good friend Renia has been bugging me for the longest for details about the US version of Torchwood. I’m excited to finally be able to share with her and of course you all the first official trailer released by Starz. I have yet to watch the British version but I think I might hold back now so as to have no idea what I’m walking into.

I had to do the same thing when Being Human was announced to be crossing the pond with the Syfy series and I’m currently watching the British version. Somehow I feel like I can be more objective this way.

So without further ado, here are some details released from the network and the trailer for your viewing pleasure.

Imagine a day when nobody dies. All across the world, nobody dies. And then the next day, and the next, and the next, people keep aging. They get hurt and sick but they never die. This is the extraordinary premise of the highly-anticipated STARZ original drama series, “Torchwood: Miracle Day,” produced by BBC Worldwide Productions for STARZ, BBC Cymru Wales and BBC Worldwide. The new series, premiering on STARZ on July 8 at 10pm ET/PT, features Torchwood alumni John Barrowman, Eve Myles, and Kai Owen and new headliners, Mekhi Phifer, Alexa Havins and Bill Pullman.

How many of you will be tuning in?

John Barrowman likes to monkey around!

John Barrowman couldn’t be bothered to stop eating his banana as paparazzi photographed him in London on February 25th.

The Dr. Who and Torchwood star is getting ready to trek across the pond to play a bad guy on the ABC drama Desperate Housewives. He is due to arrive in Los Angeles in early March and will film a minimum of five episodes for season six. He is set to play the Big Bad at the center of the Angie (Drea de Matteo) mystery.
