Zooey Deschanel strikes a pose for Glamour’s Hair Issue

Zooey Deschanel Glamour_1

It’s a new year and I’m extremely excited about seeing 12 months worth of magazine covers featuring some of the hottest stars from both the big and small screen! Glamour’s February 2013 issue is special for two reasons: 1. It’s their big hair issue 2. They are featuring the spunky Zooey Deschanel on the cover! Looking fab in a Prabal Gurung dress, the 33-year-old is featured on both the front and back of the issue (see above), a first for the magazine!

Check out 5 of our favorite things that Zooey shared with Glamour below and pick-up the February issue to read the entire article:

On the success of New Girl and making the jump from movies to television…

“I’m just going where the material is. Some of the smartest people run the network I’m on. People sometimes say, ‘Oh, you were a movie star,’ and I’m like, ‘No, I was a supporting actress.’ I wasn’t an A-list actress, and I’m fine with that. I’m proud of what I did in film. But getting to do the stuff that I was passionate about was such an uphill battle. If New Girl had been a movie, I don’t know whether I would have been given the opportunity to do it.”

On whether she considers her hair to be part of her “brand”…

“This business is all about branding! But I’ve never been like, ‘Let’s calculate an image.’ I’m just, ‘I like that. Let’s do that.’ I grew up loving French New Wave movies, and so a lot of what I like is that style. It’s just about doing what you like so that when you look at yourself, you’re not disgusted. And I’m all about unintentional. I’m not a calculated person…. Somebody asked me, ‘How did you start doing comedy?’ and I was like, ‘By being unintentionally funny.’ I think making a movie or a record, the best things happen by accident—and those end up being the magic. Every time I’ve followed my gut it’s been better than when I’ve tried to do what I was supposed to do.”

On being seen as an oddly controversial figure to some women and her critics…

“I’m just being myself. There is not an ounce of me that believes any of that crap that they say. We can’t be feminine and be feminists and be successful? I want to be a f–king feminist and wear a f–king Peter Pan collar. So f–king what?”

On if she feels pressure to look a certain way…

“I don’t. But actresses have definitely gotten thinner over the course of my lifetime. Women I admired growing up— Debra Winger, Diane Keaton, Meryl Streep—were all beautiful and thin, but not too thin. There are a lot of actresses who are unhealthy-skinny—much, much too skinny. You can’t Pilates to that. I’m a very small person, and if I lost 15 pounds, I’d look like them; it’s scary. For young girls, what does that say? You need to look this way to be successful? That’s not true. You do not need to look or be anorexic to be successful in Hollywood. The range of what’s acceptable is larger than what people believe.”

On if she gives dating advice to her friends…

“I could answer that. It depends on the people. Everyone has to make some compromises.… I think of my parents, who have been married for 40 years, and my grandparents, who were married for 69 years before my grandfather passed away. My dad is so sweet; he’s always like, ‘Your mom is a better cook than any restaurant.’ And I remember my grandfather looking at my grandmother, saying, ‘She’s the most beautiful woman in the world.’ You can’t get any better than that. But we live in a different time. I don’t get it when people just have the goal of meeting someone—then it’s only about the goal. I’ve never been a five-year planner.”

Zooey Deschanel and Joseph Gordon-Levitt make beautiful music together!

I’m probably one of the only people on Earth who didn’t like (500) Days of Summer but that doesn’t mean I didn’t enjoy the pairing of Zooey Deschanel and Joseph Gordon-Levitt! The adorable pair teamed up for a very special video set to get fans excited about 2012.

They performed the song, “What Are You Doing New Year’s Eve?” with Zooey playing ukelele, Joseph on guitar and both sharing singing duties.

I know there have been rumors about hot boy Gordon-Levitt pairing off with other Hollywood hotties like Scarlett Johansson but wouldn’t it be great to see newly single Deschanel hook up with her former co-star?

Go behind the scenes of Zooey Deschanel’s latest Rimmell London ad

Zooey Deschanel is one of those celebrities that you just can’t help but love! She often plays very lovable characters like the musical Jovie in the 2003 comedy Elf and the fun-loving Allison in the Jim Carrey dramedy, Yes Man.

So it’s been fantastic to see her spread her wings in the musical arena (Zooey is in a band with M. Ward called She & Him), personally (she married Death Cab for Cutie erm cutie Ben Gifford in 2009), and even in advertising, as brand ambassador for beauty brand Rimmell London.

Earlier this month Rimmell London released a fun new advertisement featuring Zoe and their Volume Accelerator Mascara, which I have included below in case you missed it. The brand just released some new images giving fans a behind-the-scenes look of the shoot which I’m delighted to share with you all.

I wonder if those are Deschanel’s real eyelashes featured on the advert?  If so, I am rushing to try this new mascara out ASAP.  If you want to do the same, I noticed a $2 off coupon via Rimmel London’s Official FB page here.

Between starring in movies, creating music, and a new hubby, how is Zooey Deschanel going to find time to star on a new television show? No idea but we sure are glad she is!

Variety is reporting the (500) Days of Summer actress has signed on as lead in Fox’s untitled comedy pilot from No Strings Attached writer Liz Meriwether.

Zooey Deschanel shakes her tambourine with She and Him

Even though she has been busy shooting the new Paul Rudd film, My Idiot Brother, Zooey Deschanel made some time to perform with her band over the weekend. Deschanel and her musical partner M. Ward performed as “She and Him” during the Los Angeles Times Celebration of Food & Wine held at Paramount Studios on Sunday, September 5th, 2010 in Los Angeles, California.

Their performance helped closed the [Read more...]

Zooey Deschanel in Domino Magazine

zooeymag1Zooey Deschanel is featured in the February 2009 edition of Domino Magazine.  In this article the actress/musician shows how she transformed a spare room into an artists retreat.

She transformed the room into a place where she could practice with her instruments that include guitars, ukulele’s and other percussion instruments and also peaceful enough where she could curl up and enjoy a good book.  Deschanel soundproofed the walls to shield her neighbors while she creates tunes that might end up on a future She & Him album.

Zooey shares what is your favorite thing about the space.

It’s like a present to myself to have a room solely devoted to creative endeavors.  It’s a nice, quiet, place to write music, do a bit of paperwork and read.

Not only does Zooey sing and act but she dabbles in other creative activities.

I paint a little and also sew and cook-sometimes playing with different mediums can be inspiring for your work.
